Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew still don't understand divorce
The Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson arrived at BBC Radio Two Studios and was interviewed about her new ITV programme where she spent more than 10 days on a Manchester Housing Estate to learn more about problems of 'Broken Britain'. As Sarah left the studios and walked back to her car, she happened to notice a little girl who was not happy and shy. Sarah asked her entourage for a copy of her book that she wrote and published entitled 'Little Red Book' and signed it. The little girl cheered up in the end a
Sarah Ferguson says she and ex-husband Prince Andrew still don’t understand why they divorced.
The Duchess of York revealed that she and Andrew were guilty of ‘not fighting’ for their love.
Fergie was plugging her new movie The Young Victoria and compared her marriage to that of Victoria and Albert.
“As soon as I got married, Andrew was taken away from me and went to sea, and I only saw him for 40-days a year,” she said.
“So I was sitting there on the second floor in Buckingham Palace, and that may sound fabulous, but suddenly you are in an institution and suddenly you have to learn how to be a princess and the man that you married to be a princess wasn’t there.
“Andrew and I now, 25 years on, look back and we are the best divorced couple really - we are divorced to each other, not divorced from each other.
“We look at it and say, ‘Why did we do it? Why did we divorce?’, and we both realise that we didn’t fight for our love.
“We should have fought for it like Victoria and Albert fought for theirs - they were married for 21 years and had nine children.
“I think if Andrew and I had said ‘No’ to the courtiers, ‘Do not take us away form each other - let us be together’ then it may have been a different story.”
Asked if it was too late, Fergie laughed and said: “No, it is never too late but I think they probably don’t want a flea under their saddle. Me. They don’t want the redhead back in the palace life I think.”
