Plenty of high-stakes drama could unfold at Grammys
Music’s biggest event always courts controversy and this year may be no different
The sudden death of Whitney Houston cast a pall over the Grammys last year as did Chris Brown’s alleged vicious beating of Rihanna the night before the awards back in 2009. While we don’t foresee anything quite this tragic happening again in 2013, there are at least five potential dramas brewing which threaten to hijack all the headlines.
Frank Ocean and Chris Brown rematch
The Grammys will mark the first time the dueling singers will be in the same place since their highly publicized brawl last month outside an L.A. recording studio, in which Brown allegedly punched and threatened to shoot Ocean during an altercation over a parking spot. With the rivals going head to head in the best urban contemporary album category, it’s safe to say we can expect more fireworks to erupt.
Defending baby-mama’s honour
Kanye West has already proven he’s not afraid to steal the mic when he wants to make a point, but considering the rapper leads the pack for Grammy nominations this year, odds are he’ll have a chance to speak his mind without having to cut anyone else off. Enter his prime target these days, Kris Humphries, who is holding West’s baby mama Kim Kardashian hostage in divorce court. It would be completely out of character if West didn’t take the opportunity once on stage to get a few jabs in at the NBA player.
Beyoncé in PETA’s bulls-eye
Beyoncé has found herself in the animal rights group’s line of fire after sporting a bodysuit made of python, iguana and cow during her Super Bowl performance, fresh on the heels of her mink coat controversy at President Obama’s Inauguration last month. Considering PETA once flour-bombed Kim Kardashian, could the R&B diva, set to present at the Grammy’s, be their next red carpet target?
Adam Levine serenades Taylor Swift?
At the People’s Choice Awards last month, Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine seemed totally smitten by Taylor Swift, telling the audience the songstress was “super charming.” As luck would have it, the single singers are both set to attend the Grammys this year, with Swift performing and Maroon 5 nominated in two categories, including best pop vocal album. Could a love connection, or at the very least another #1 single be in the making?
Rihanna and Chris Brown – Grammy date take 2
The 2013 Grammy Awards will mark four years since Chris Brown’s dramatic pre-Grammy assault on Rihanna back in 2009, and it will also be the first time the pair are officially back together for music’s biggest night. With both stars up for awards and Riri set to perform, chances are the couple, who displayed a united front at Brown’s court hearing this week, will continue their unapologetic love tour with some flagrant PDA.
