Joseph Gordon-Levitt has decided to remove a racy sex scene from his directorial debut Don Jon's Addiction to make sure the movie lands an appropriate age rating.

The Dark Knight Rises actor directs and stars in the film as a porn-obsessed womaniser who tries to start a meaningful relationship with Scarlett Johansson's character.

The film won a distribution deal following its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah last month (Jan13), but the actor has confirmed he will have to change some parts of the movie to appease censors.

Speaking during a press conference at the Berlin International Film Festival in Germany, Gordon-Levitt told reporters, "Yes, we expect we have to do that (cut a sex scene) and I'll be getting started on it as soon as I get back (to the U.S.)... It won't affect the movie if we change that... I think it is important that those images are in there but what precisely you see isn't that important. What's important is the rhythm of the film, the repetition of what the Don Jon character does, over and over."

The movie is set for a summer (13) release.
