Melanie Brown used 'Scary' persona as a barrier

Former Spice Girl Melanie Brown relished her 'Scary Spice' nickname because it prevented people from getting too close when they first met her.

Melanie Brown used 'Scary' persona as a barrier

The bandmembers of the 1990s pop supergroup were all given their own personas after hitting the bigtime, and Brown was labelled 'Scary' thanks to her wild stage outfits and loud voice.

And in a new TV show, Spice Girls’ Story: Viva Forever, the singer reveals she used her attitude-packed alias as a barrier against strangers.

She says, "Every woman gets a little bit scary every now and again and whether they’re peed off (angry) with their boyfriend or just having one of those bad hair days, we’re all a bit scary.

"I like my name. It kind of put a barrier up because when somebody would first meet me they’d think that I were going to be horrible and actually I picked and chose whether I was going to be nice or not nice that day."

The show, which is to help promote the band's West End musical Viva Forever!, will air in the U.K. on Christmas Eve (24Dec12).
