Salma Hayek: I'd breastfeed another starving baby
The LA Premiere for 'Puss In Boots' at the Regency Village Theatre in Westwood, California.
She sparked a controversy after she was pictured breastfeeding an African baby, but Salma Hayek says if she could she would do it again.
And the Puss in Boots actress reveals that she nursed more than one baby during her 2009 goodwill trip to Sierra Leone.
"I never understood the big deal," the 45-year-old tells California newspaper The Orange County Register about the worldwide outrage the picture caused.
"I wasn't exposing my breast. There was nothing sexual about it. It was an act of compassion.
"I would do it again. In fact, I nursed more than one baby that day."
Hayek was in the process of weaning her own baby daughter, Valentina, off breast milk at the time.
"If you are carrying these buckets of milk, and not using them, and then all of a sudden there are these starving children desperate for milk, is it right to throw the milk on the ground?" she says.
"Is that shocking?"
Hayek's daughter Valentina who she had with husband, French businessman François-Henri Pinault, is now four years old.
