After just six months of dating, Avril Lavigne announced she was engaged to Nickelback's front man Chad Kroeger. While we couldn't be happier for the couple, the are some out there who might think their surprise union is a little bit, well, icky. Sure, he may be 10 (but looks 20) years older than the Sk8er girl, but they have plenty in common. They're both Canadian, they were both fixtures of the best-forgotten commercialized pop-punk/grunge revival of the early 2000s, they're still peddling wildly unfashionable music and, erm, that's it.
The engagement comes as a surprise as many still thought she was dating The Hills star Brody Jenner. Avril was previously married to fellow early 2000s pop-punk star and Sum 41 super-hunk Deryk Whibley.
The pair apparently got together while working on a track for Avril's new album and have been together ever since. They've already sold their to story to Hello! magazine, and Chad has given Avril a 14 carat engagement ring.

Shame on these writers for being truly small minded, judgmental and rude all the time! We live in a world that is anti-bullying, we try to teach our kids to do the right thing and just SHUT UP with rude comments, but everywhere we look we see these terrible "journalists" dissing everyone. Mixed messages to our kids when the media can't set a good example. Good luck to the couple, hope it works out for them. Ten years difference is not a big thing at all.

I do not understand why people feel that these two are icky. Having been around music for over 40 years, I think Nickelback kicks out great tunes with rhythm and lyrics that tell a story. Their music has a beat and is easy to listen to. Much unlike grunge etc. Avril has a beautiful voice and Chad has a great voice as well. I hope nothing but the best for them and think that they are true talents. Canadians should be proud of them as they represent our country music wise. I started listening to rock music in the Beatles anf Stones era so I think I know a bit about what I am speaking of. Great singers with great talent.
