Democrats and Republicans came together for some bipartisan bonding during the movie showing in the Congressional Auditorium at the Capitol Visitors Center.
Spielberg, who directed the biopic about 16th U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, insisted he felt honored to screen his movie in the Senate and to see "both sides sitting in the same room watching a president put the people out in front of the abyss."
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, says, "I hope everybody who shared his (Lincoln's) anti-political mood will go out there and see Lincoln. The movie portrays a nobility of politics in exactly the right way."
To make the movie experience complete, Senator Reid sought special dispensation from the Senate Rules Committee to allow popcorn to be served in the Congressional Auditorium, where no food is usually allowed.
