7 “All right, Mr. DeMille, I’m ready for my close-up.” – Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson).
MOVIE: "Sunset Blvd." (1950)
CONTEXT: The last words spoken by Swanson's homicidal diva as she greets her new "audience" of reporters and police, it's a perfect fadeout for Billy Wilder's venomous Hollywood murder mystery.
DOES IT ENDURE? Only as parody, regrettably - you'll hear it pulled out for a cheap laugh on old "Golden Girls" re-runs.
IS THERE A BETTER LINE? Not really, although the film is full of great ones. This one sums the whole point up rather nicely, doesn't it?
