From North America to Europe, Quebec can double as pretty much anywhere a director desires. The weather-gone-wacko epic The Day After Tomorrow, in which the Statue of Liberty is buried in snow, was filmed almost entirely in Montreal, with the freezing winter footage being produced in the warm confines of Mel's Cité du Cinéma studio. Elsewhere around the city, Montréal-Mirabel International Airport impersonates New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport in The Terminal (check out the Air Transat jets in the background of some shots), while another transport hub and another Tom Hanks movie, Lionel-Groulx Metro Station has appeared in Catch Me If You Can. As a seasoned performer, Lionel-Groulx Metro Station has also shown up in The Jackal, standing in for a Washington metro station, and Punisher: War Zone as the entrance to the Punisher's lair.
