Based on Phillip Pullman's first novel in His Dark Material's trilogy, The Golden Compass is set in a parallel universe where Gyptians rule the seas, Ice Bears rule the north and Witches fly the skies. Serafina Pekkala (Eva Green) is one such witch, a three hundred year old witch queen to be exact, who helps Lyra rescue all the missing children from Nicole Kidman's clutches. Since everyone's souls reside outside their bodies as animals called dæmons, Lyra defeats Nicole Kidman by knocking out her dæmon golden monkey, whose mega-watt hair colour bears a remarkable resemblance to Keith Urban's highlights.
