2007's "Hannibal Rising" is the fourth film in the Lecter franchise, the first to be all about Lecter, and so bad it's effectively cured audiences of their desire to see Lecter ever again. The story traces the roots of Lecter's killing and cannibalism back to his tormented childhood in Lithuania during the Second World War, where he saw his sister become food for starving German officers. Eight years later, young Lecter (Gaspard Ulliel) starts killing and eating people himself. As the Orlando Sentinel griped, "'Rising' is a movie that solves a mystery no one should want solved, with more grisly crimes that spare us no detail, held together by an actor who is no Anthony Hopkins."
