Quentin Tarantino has described Django Unchained as a “Southern” given that it takes the elements of the traditional Western – horses, dust, a justice-seeking protagonist – and relocates them to the humid climes of Louisiana. There have been plenty o’ typical shoot-‘em-up Westerns made over the last century, but sometimes filmmakers kick the dust off their heels and come up with something new.
