The 1990s. It was a weird decade. It seems to us at this moment that - while some of the tracks by these artists are genuinely awesome - there were more bizarrely mediocre and forgettable smash hits in the 1990s than any other era. Though maybe that's just because we've been so focused on making this list.

So, what makes a one hit wonder?  We've chosen musicians whose songs hit the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and who have become best known for that one particular song.

Sure, they might have continued to make it onto the dance charts or the Swedish charts or whatever. But that doesn't negate their one hit wonder status around these parts.

Without further ado, here's our Top 10 list of one hit wonders of the 1990s.

Do you have a favourite one hit wonder? Let us know in the comments.

so... these ppl weren't even that big then to use them to define the 90s decade. There were much more famous and significant names then that would do a much better job defining those times.
When you are stressing that it was a "bizarrely mediocre" decade (or however it is worded), you are immediately implying that whatever came before and after was so much better.
So, do you mean to say that today's "artists" are so much more talented and better? are you ****ng me? All these Beyonce, Swift whatever whoever bimbos and idiots are just as mediocre and boring and earwormy and whatnot. Someone must be very invested in them to promote them like they are being promoted. But other than that - twenty years later there will be nothing to remember about them as well. I don't care how many hits are hiped up for them now - they are mediocrity and time will show it.
If anything, the 90s were much more fun and more interesting in a creative way than anything that the last decade produced.

I agree with Tami Arseneault, you are an idiot...but, much to my dismay, even idiots have opinions.  If you slow down and sound out your words really careful before you pound your moronic sausage fingers on the keyboard, you will notice that no one said these 'artists' , or their music, defined the 90's.  Let me break this down for you so maybe you can understand...don't worry, I will try not to use big words. They are simply saying that back in the 90's, these specific 'artists' had hit songs that topped the charts and were on all the radio stations...They are defining one song the artist is known for, not the artist themselves....Hence the term "one hit wonder", you bumbling **** waffle.

Right Said Fred are massive in Germany.  I ran into them at Dusseldorf airport flying to Berlin to perform and have seen them in videos sung in English but featuring props like German newspapers.  They seem surprisingly popular with middle aged couples in Bavaria.  I think that this kind of success in Germany did David Hasselhoff no harm and there are 20 million more Germans than Britons, and 56 more Germans than Canadians, so it is a big market.  This probably explains why they are still recording when other '90s groups have falled by the wayside.

you  must be a really young  person  making the comments your making . some of these artists were only" annoying " to certain people but  the 90's had so many talented  music artists it was the decade of grunge.  These people are a very few of the thousands of  artists that were around and  were very popular if you had been around in this era of music. Music went down hill in the 2000's  now were stuck with  Justin Bieber and katy perry  as this era's big music makers .

the best era of music was the 60's to the late 90's I miss those days.

I've always enjoyed Lisa Loeb's music - adult and children's songs alike. Her recently-released album "The Way It Really Is" is quite good. Whether it generate****" or not has nothing to do with the quality of the work - for which she does not deserve the implied derision of "one hit wonder."

Hated the 80's pop; I loved the alternative bands of the 90's and I still do!
