Ozzy Bites the Head off a Bat
If it weren't for the legend that former Black Sabbath vocalist Ozzy Osbourne once bit the head off a bat, he'd now be just another addled, ex-rock star with a squawking wife forcing him to lose all dignity on reality TV shows. Because as rock myths go, this one was a career-maker. And for once, it's completely true.

On January 20, 1982, the defenceless pipistrelle (real name Colin Parsons) landed at Osbourne's feet during his concert in Des Moines. No one knows if it was thrown there by an idiot or simply swooped down from the rafters to request that the band play Paranoid. What we do know is Ozzy assumed it was a rubber bat (well you would, wouldn't you?) and popped it into his mouth (well you would, wouldn't you?) The incident required a week of rabies shots but sadly the bat could not be saved (do you see what we did there?)
