Put together by Russian svengali Ivan Shapovalov, t.A.T.u. 's Julia Olegovna Volkova and Elena Sergeevna Katina captivated teenage boys the world over as over-sexed lesbians who produced effortlessly catchy Euro-pop, eventually becoming the most successful Russian group of all time. Unsurprisingly, the curtain eventually fell when (wait for it) the girls admitted to playing up the lesbian angle for publicity. Since then, the members of t.A.T.u. have split from Shapovalov and in March 2009, they announced that t.A.T.u would no longer be a full-time project. Both members will release solo albums in the coming years and continue to promote their film project You and I (AKA Finding t.A.T.u.).
