John Malkovich and Hugh Laurie in Annie Lennox's "Walking on Broken Glass" (BMG, Arista)

Directed by Sophie Muller (Garbage, No Doubt), "Walking on Broken Glass" is set at an 18th century high society party. Ex-Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox plays a spurned woman whose ex (John Malkovich, riffing on his 1988 costume drama "Dangerous Liaisons") arrives with his new flame, much to her dismay and the confusion of her companion (Hugh Laurie). Lennox, seething with jealousy, holds her own against Malkovich. But it's Laurie, virtually unknown in North America at the time but now famous for his TV show "House," who has the most fun, looking aghast at Lennox's drunken behaviour and mugging his way through his embarrassment.
