It's hard to believe Jimi Hendrix released only three studio albums during his 27-year lifetime. Jimi died on September 8, 1970 in the basement of the Samarkand Hotel in London. Girlfriend Monika Dannemann testified that he'd taken nine tablets of a particularly strong German sleeping drug called Vesperax. The attending doctor and autopsy both stated Hendrix died by asphyxiating on his own vomit. As with Jim Morrison, rumours have persisted that Hendrix' death was not as his girlfriend reported (she would take her own life after a libel trial brought by another of Jimi's lovers, Kathy Etchingham). Recently it's been alleged by a former Animals roadie that Hendrix was murdered by his manager Mike Jeffery, by drowning him with wine. These claims have been dismissed by the ambulance drivers who were at the scene.
