Actress and singer Aaliyah Dana Haughton was just 22 when the Cessna plane carrying her and her crew from the Bahamas, where they'd just completed the video for her single "Rock the Boat" crashed shortly after takeoff. Against baggage handlers' advice, the plane had been overloaded with equipment from the shoot. It was later found that the pilot had falsely obtained his license and had traces of cocaine and alcohol in his system. Aaliyah had released three groundbreaking and hugely influential albums prior to her death, with hits including "Age Ain't Nuthin but a Number," "Try Again" and "More Than a Woman" earning her the title: Princess of R&B.
