Whitney Houston's death on the eve of this year's Grammy Awards added a sombre touch to the ceremony with the biggest names in music giving heartfelt tributes to the legendary singer.

Host LL Cool J kicked off the show by leading the audience into a prayer for "our fallen sister, Whitney Houston" while performances for the evening saw artistes like Bruno Mars, Rihanna and Alicia Keys give a shout-out to the late star.

Though perhaps the most spine-tingling Whitney tribute came from Jennifer Hudson, who performed a chilling - and near-perfect - rendition of 'I Will Always Love You' during the in-memoriam segment of the show.

Hudson only had one night to prepare as Grammy organisers scrambled to make changes just hours after Houston was found dead in her hotel room.

Legendary funk and soul singer Chaka Khan was scheduled to perform with Jennifer Hudson for the tribute but pulled out shortly before the show began.

Adieu dearest sister in christ, those who believes in the christ shall never die. You are in the right hand of the lord Jesus and shall be with him on his return to judge the living and the dead. May the holy spirit be with your daughter you left behind in this cloudy world. The light of the lord shall shine on her path , showing her the way to eternity.
