When Buffy and friends weren't kicking evil's butt, they were dealing with intensified coming-of-age drama. Some might argue "Buffy" falls in the category of sci-fi, but any soap aficionado knows sci-fi is just soap in disguise. In fact, these genre-bending shows tend to get even deeper than simple soaps. With "All My Children" Emmy winner Sarah Michelle Gellar in the lead role, "Buffy" put the WB network, Joss Whedon and "Gossip Girl" villain Michelle Trachtenberg on the map and spawned David Boreanaz's spin-off "Angel."
